My First Ballet Class

The first ballet class is always a very special moment—for both children and parents. To ensure everything runs smoothly, we have put together a practical last-minute checklist. Here you will find out which items are important, what the correct hairstyle looks like, and what else you should keep in mind.

The Trial Class

Is your child entering the ballet studio for the first time? No problem! Not much is needed to get started:

Socks (without anti-slip soles or grips).
A comfortable T-shirt and trousers or tights.

After changing clothes and completing the registration, you will hand your child over to us at the door. During the class, you may wait in the changing area or elsewhere in the building.

Ballet Attire

For regular training, special clothing is worn to ensure comfort, freedom of movement, and to highlight posture:

Leotard: A close-fitting ballet leotard allows full freedom of movement and helps teachers correct posture. At LOFT 13, we use age-appropriate colors.
Pink tights: These emphasize leg work and make muscles more visible.
Pink ballet shoes: Lightweight, flexible shoes with split soles that support floor contact and mobility.
Hair: Neatly styled in a bun to keep the face clear.
Accessories: Depending on requirements, wrap skirts or leggings may be needed.

Checklist for the First Class

Clothing: T-shirt, trousers/tights, or leotard with tights.
Shoes: Regular socks for the trial class, ballet slippers for later.
Hair: Bun, ponytail, or headband.
No jewelry: To avoid injuries, please leave necklaces, bracelets, and earrings at home.
Safety: No chewing gum or sweets in the ballet studio.

Recommended Ballet Hairstyles

Hair should always be neatly tied back during ballet class, as loose hair can be distracting. Here are a few tips:

Short hair: A wide headband secured with hair clips is sufficient.
Medium-length hair: A simple ponytail is ideal.
Long hair: A secure bun ensures order and freedom of movement.

For Your Child

At LOFT 13, the joy of dancing and your child’s progress are our main priorities. To support this, we kindly ask you to let your child attend the class on their own. Watching from inside the studio is not permitted, so that your child can fully concentrate on the teacher and the group.

If your child experiences initial separation anxiety, please remain calm and wait in the nearby changing area. In most cases, this is not necessary, and you will be able to welcome your child back after the class—happy and proud.
